With  over 15 years experienced in repair, refinishing and custom guitar work Gary Smith  has a loyal base of musicians and clients who champion his efforts and expertise.

Basic guitar setup

Surprisingly  many  players  struggle with a guitar that has never been  set-up properly.  Temperature and humidity  are the primary factors that effect the guitar the most. These factors change with the seasons and can effect the playability of the instrument.

To experience the most from a  guitar Gary recommends frequent string changes and a set up every three to six months.

"We change the strings, adjust the neck, adjust the action and bridge. The final step is to set the intonation.  A good sounding,  good-playing guitar is the end result. "

"The  most overlooked component of  an electric guitar is typically the pickup. Manufactures try to cut costs so most stock pickups never represent the true tonality of the guitar. Hand wound pickups are always the best choice and Jerry Amalfitano's scatter-wound vintage pickups sound great. "
Pickup replacement

More often than not it's the electronics  holding  back the tone and  not the guitar. Replacing the old pickups with quality pickups can greatly improve a guitar's tone. If you are serious about tone, Gary's expertise in this area is extensive.  amalfitanopickups.com

Refinish & restore

Gary has experience restoring and refinishing both vintage and contemporary guitars.  Using only the best products and his knowledge of  vintage era specifications Gary produces period correct restorations and  re-fins. All finishes are done by Gary Smith

" In the 50's and  60's guitars were finished in nitro lacquer while most of the guitars  today are  finished in polyurethane. Poly finish hermetically seals the guitar and  prevents the cellular structure of the wood from maturing and developing that classic vibe. I prefer to use  natural nitrocellulose  lacquer finishes"

62' Fiesta Red nitro refinish in  with relic hardware & a soft fade.  '59 Sunburst nitro refinish with relic hardware.  59' Blonde nitro refinish with relic hardware and reasonable signs of age.
